Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is another program that the Community Services Section offers. Neighborhood Watch was designed as a burglary prevention measure that encourages members to watch out for each others property. It works well and is still used for that in Council Bluffs however at this point in time, as the department moves toward community policing, the officers are attempting to change the Neighborhood Watch program somewhat.

The Council Bluffs Police Department would like the Watch groups to be based on positive things. The primary purpose would be to bring a sense of neighborhood back to the community by establishing a sense of belonging, by getting to know your neighbors and by developing a neighborhood where people care about each other and will help each other.

The Watch group would work with the police department to identify problems within the neighborhood and develop solutions to those problems. The department's role in this it to help start the group and meet with the group to hear about what the people who live in the neighborhood think the problems are.

Information can be shared and hopefully problems can be solved or reduced by working in partnership with the people in the community. If you are interested in starting a neighborhood group or reestablishing an old one call Officer Mark G. Alba at 712-329-1825.
